Founded by Del Webb in 1989 as the developer's first active-adult community in the Las Vegas valley, Sun City Summerlin sits on roughly 2,000 acres at the western edge of Summerlin. Homes began closing in 1991, and the neighborhood reached substantial build-out by 1999 with 7,779 homes.

Every home is governed by the Sun City Summerlin Community Association, which maintains four resident-only recreation centers and three golf courses operated as Golf Summerlin.
