Boulder City, Nevada

A historic, growth-controlled community on the doorstep of Lake Mead and Hoover Dam

Boulder City

Boulder City sits about 26 miles southeast of Las Vegas, wedged between the desert and the shoreline of Lake Mead, with Hoover Dam just a few minutes' drive away. It began in 1931 as a federal government town built by the Bureau of Reclamation to house Hoover Dam workers, and incorporated in 1960.

Boulder City is one of only two places in Nevada where gambling is prohibited by city charter. City code also limits new residential construction to 120 building permits per year and caps hotels at 35 rooms, keeping the town's historic downtown intact.
